I had found this simple single crochet square pattern on an old blog that isn't around anymore (I Go By Kate). She had such a lovely blog! I ended up finding a similar pattern on Youtube that shows you. All you would need to do is adjust the amount of chains you want for the size. I went with 8 chains.
Note: if you are making it 8 chains long, always add an extra chain....
